Cho Oyu Expedition (8,201m) to the world’s sixth-highest mountain that stands astride the Nepal and Tibet border, is only 70 kilometers west of Everest. Cho Oyu is translated as "The Turquoise Goddess" in the Tibetan language. It lies at the westernmost point of the Khumbu sub-section of the Mahalangur Himalaya.
Towards the west of Cho Oyu lies Nangpa La, a glaciated pass that connects the main trading route between Tibet and the Khumbu region of Nepal. It separates the Khumbu from the Rolwaling Himalayas. Because of its accessibility and its moderate slopes at the north-west ridge, Cho Oyu is considered the easiest 8,000-meter peak to climb. We use the normal route that ascends the north-west face from the Tibetan side of the Nangpa La.
Climbing Cho Oyu From Tibet
Cho Oyu Expedition begins by taking a slow long drive from Kathmandu passing through the Langtang region u to Kyirong, a border town in Nepal. After crossing the Nepal- China border, we drive into the vast and scenic Tibetan plateau to reach Tingri, an old town. Further, we drive through the bumpy rough road taking us to the base camp of Mt Cho Oyu on the Northern side.
It takes 22 days from the base camp for a safe and successful ascent to reach the summit of Mt. Cho Oyu. During the climb, we can see and experience the superb panorama and breath-taking views of Tibet and Nepal.
After the successful ascent to the top of the world's 6th highest mountain, we return to Kathmandu through the same route with overwhelming memories and adventures of Mt. Cho Oyu Expedition.
