Trip Highlights

Makalu base camp trek takes you to one of the most remote and unfrequented areas in Nepal. The trail goes along the Arun Koshi and Barun Valley, protected as Nepal's newest national park renowned for its natural beauty and rich biodiversity. The Makalu region offers a most outstanding and diverse trekking route in the Himalayas. A rough trail leads past yak pastures and glaciers to the base of Makalu, the world's fifth highest Mountain, located 22 km to the east of Everest and 80 km west of Kangchenjunga.
This isolated and remote area of the Makalu has been successful at preserving the country's distinctive culture, flora and fauna. While trekking, travelers will be much impressed by high waterfalls cascading into deep gorges, craggy rocks rising from lush green forests, and colorful flowers blossoming beneath white snow peaks. Rare species of animals and plants are found in abundance in the undisturbed habitats over here. You can make an outstanding trek in eastern Nepal from Tumlingtar by walking north up the Arun Kosi to Sedua and Num, into the upper Barun Khola valley for a close look at Makalu and Chhamlang. The trek to Makalu base camp is one of the most remote and unfrequented areas in Nepal. From the vantage point above Makalu Base Camp you will be mesmerized with the views of the world's highest mountains, including Everest (8,850m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,463m), Chamlang (7,319m) and Baruntse (7,220m).

  • Mesmerizing views of Mt. Makalu, Mt. Chamlang and many other peaks
  • Experience the rural life of culturally & ethnically rich people like Rai, Limbu and others
  • The most pristine mountain ecosystems on earth
  • Wilderness and stunning natural scenery
