If you want to do a short trek in Nepal, experiencing the indigenous culture, enjoying beautiful scenery, and visiting traditional villages, then the Ghorepani Poonhill trek is the best choice for you. It is a relatively easy and very popular trek in the Annapurna region.

This trek is highly recommended for the first-time trekkers and for those who have a very short holiday in Nepal. It takes only 7 days to complete. Poon hill, situated at the altitude 3210 meters, is the best viewpoint from where we can see the best sunrise in the morning with amazing views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Mt. Annapurna. Annapurna south, Machhapuchhapure (Fishtail), Gangapurna, Lamjung Himal, Barasikhar, Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak, Hiunchuli and many other peaks before our eyes. Particularly the view of Machhapuchhapure (Fishtail) from the Poon hilltop is fantastic.

The trip starts just north of Pokhara driving up to Nayapul and then the trekking trail takes you to Ghorepani. Along the trail we pass through spectacular mountain scenery, dense rhododendron forest and deep sub-tropical valleys, visit charming villages inhabited by the Gurungs.

While walking downhill to Pokhara, we pass through the cultural village of Ghandruk, inhabited by Gurung indigenous people.

Anyone physically fit is able to comfortably complete this trek. The best season is autumn (September- November) and spring (March-May). In these months, the weather is pleasant, the sky is clear and the temperature is moderate. Only in the morning and evenings, one can feel a bit chilly and the entire day time remains perfectly clear to enjoy the splendid views of the mountains.
