Mt. Ama Dablam is popularly known as “Matterhorn of the Himalaya”, which is located in the Himalayan range of Eastern Nepal. The overhung glacial mass on the southwest face of Mt. Ama Dablam looks like a ‘Dablam’- the sacred ornament box used by Sherpa women, thus the name “Ama Dablam” or “Mother’s necklace”. Mt Ama Dablam, is situated within the Khumbu region, south of Everest and Lhotse. Mt. Ama Dablam is 6,856m/22,494ft in height from the sea level. The mountain stands above the famous Tengboche Monastery traditionally visited by climbers to the region. Mt. Ama Dablam expedition provides the ultimate challenge to the world’s most technical peak.

Mt. Ama Dablam: The technical mountain

Mt. Ama Dablam is climbed from the south-western ridge. This is the same route followed by the climbers of NZ, UK and US who reached the summit for the first time in 1961. Mt. Ama Dablam Expedition is a very technical endeavour. All the climbers require solid skills in ice climbing, rock climbing, adequate high altitude experience and technical prowess.

All three camps are set just below the right side of the hanging glacier, or “Dablam”. We set the Ama Dablam Base Camp tents at the height of 4600m/15,088ft. Ama Dablam Base Camp is very safe from extreme weather and avalanches. From Camp 1 to Camp 2, it gets very technical because we need to pass through narrow edges of ridges by climbing between rocks faces. Then again, the climb gets more technical and risky from Camp 2 to the Last Camp because of the high chances of falling rocks and ice debris. From The Last Camp to the summit, chances of avalanches rise and we need to climb totally on the ice surface. After summiting, we return to Camp 2.

If you possess any previous climbing experiences and wish to join contact us. You will be joining as a Himalayan Global Expedition team member to one of the world's most admired mountain, Mt. Ama Dablam.
